96 CHORDS
- Learn how the two most common bar chords are played along the neck.
Chords, on guitar, are named by the shape and the root. Too many guitar
players are playing things they can’t define. Players who can tell
you what it is they are playing are the ones that end up in good bands.

RHYTHM - Rhythm is
one of the most neglected aspects of playing guitar. Everybody wants to
play lead. The best lead players are also great rhythm players. This poster
looks simple but, I believe you will find that it is more difficult than
it looks. Playing rhythm is not all down or all up strokes. It is down,
up, down, up etc. You have to play the up or down stroke whether or not
you actually hit the strings. Silence is music and you have to play it.
Missing certain down or up strokes will produce different styles.

LEAD GUITAR - MINOR PENTATONIC
SCALES - If you are going to play lead guitar you are going to play
scales. Minor pentatonic scales are extremely common in lead. Because
guitar is a pattern oriented instrument, these scales are good for all
keys. Playing scales will make you a better guitar player faster than
any other thing you can do. If you don’t like to play scales...
play them until you do. Because these scales are so often used, when you
learn them, you will be more able to tell when a guitar player on a CD
is using them. |

SCALES IN C - This
poster shows all of the major and minor diatonic scales and all of the
major and minor pentatonic scales in C. The scales are also related to
the C major chords along the neck. If you know how to play the scales
on this poster... you will know a lot. Because guitar is a pattern oriented
instrument, knowing these scales will make it easy to play in any other
key. |

Chord Formulas- If
you were asked to play a Bm7-5, would you know how? What about a C7#9?
I had a chord book, years ago, that contained 7,488 chords. I thought
that was overwhelming. You can either memorize a chord book or, learn
how chords are constructed. Chords are formed from the notes of scales.
If you learn how this works, you will be able to name and play any chord
you see. Knowledge will make your job a whole lot easier. |

THE 5 GREAT KEYS - Because
of the way a guitar is tuned, there are five keys that are the easiest
in which to play. Those five keys are: C, A, G, E, and D. Because they
are the easiest, most of what guitar players do is in one of those five
keys. This poster will teach you the basic as well as common additional
chords for each of those five keys. You will also learn to play chord
progressions using the "number system". The number system (not
math) will help you to develop your ear. It is great to be able to listen
to a CD and be able to define what you are hearing. Playing by ear is
a great part of what musicians do. |
